Don’t Wait
My advice to parents who have children in the public school system is do not waste your time, while your children are in the system, trying to change it. Leave that to others who either have no children or whose children are already grown and out of the system.
Pull them out now and homeschool them. The public schools are so degraded at this point it’s going to take years and years to change them if it’s even possible at all.
Even the structure of the system in “good schools” works against students: boring textbooks, meaningless quizzes, bells, boredom and more. It produces good little citizens who do what they’re told.
You, as parent and teacher, can do much, much better. Don’t believe them when they tell you, you can’t, that you should turn your children’s education over to the “professionals” and “experts.” A bloated bureaucracy’s first goal is always self-preservation.
The education revolution begins at home.

“One of the reasons why growing numbers of people are so passionately opposed to the public schools is that these schools are in fact acting as if someone had explicitly and legally given them the power to promote one set of ideas and to put down others.”1
